Pilar Golez Wells, A.K.A. ‘Lola’, age 97, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 31, 2021, in Anne Arundel County Maryland. She was born on October 12, 1924 in the city of Manila, Philippines to Pacifico & Maria Golez. Pilar was a talented writer and had a love of the fashion industry – she combined these passions and in 1956 was the honored recipient of the Presidential Award of Merit for Woman Editor of the Year, in recognition of her work as Editor of Philippine Charm Magazine.
Pilar had her first child in 1953, a daughter, Maricia Balderamma. She met her husband of 52 years, Kenneth J. Wells, while he was stationed in the Phlippines as a Veterans Affair Lawyer for the US Embassy, and they were married in 1960. Daughter, Elizabeth Anne, was born in 1961, a short time before the family boarded a ship to take them to the United States. Ken, Pilar, Maricia & Elizabeth settled in their home in Bowie, MD and son, Kenneth Jr was born in 1963. In 1980, her 1st grandchild was born and she officially took on the title of ‘Lola.’
Pilar was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and ‘Lola’ to anyone lucky enough to have been a part of her life.
Pilar is survived by her children: Maricia Coleman & husband Steve, Elizabeth Wells and Kenneth Wells Jr & Wife Lana; her grandchildren: Jennifer Klingler & husband Greg, Jaryd Coleman & wife Patti, Rachel Scalera, Michael Scalera, Polina McDonough & husband Matt, Alexander Wells & Andrei Wells; and her legacy will live on through her great-grandchildren: Sienna Klingler (13), Paige Klingler (10), Alexandra Coleman (3), Greysen Coleman (1), Leo Coleman (1) and Miles McDonough (2).
