Raymond M. Beauvoir

July 25, 1926 — January 5, 2021

Raymond Beauvoir, 94, passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 in Potomac, Maryland. He is survived by his beloved wife May Xavier, his daughters and son in laws, Sandra and Nelson Soto, Joanne and Jack Brown and Marjorie and Brian McAllister.  He is also survived by a sister Huguette Mayard.  His loss is also mourned by grandchildren, Tiger, Julian, Jean-Luc, Matthew, Abigail, Avery, Gabrielle, Helena, great grandson Zen and a number of adoring nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Michel Beauvoir and Jean Roi, brothers and sisters Frank, Mariethérèse, Daniel, Jean, Michel and Jacques.

Raymond was born and raised in Port au Prince, Haiti where he received his college degree and law degree. He practiced law briefly before coming to Washington, DC as a diplomat at the Haitian Embassy. He was transferred to Cuba during his time of service. After returning to D.C., he met the love of his life, May Xavier. They were married and resided in Hyattsville, Maryland for over 50 years.  

Raymond pursued higher education at Howard University obtaining his Masters in Economics. He then worked at the Inter-American Development Bank as an economist with a focus on Latin American countries. He retired after 30 years.

During his retirement Raymond enjoyed spending time with family, playing chess, and reading. He was dedicated to biblical and devotional study. His favorite pastime was attending the events of his grandchildren. 

He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

A virtual gathering will be planned in the near future to celebrate his life.
