Reba Patrick Waple, age 99, entered into eternal rest on October 4, 2021, Gaithersburg, Maryland. She was born Reba Trinkle Patrick on May 24, 1922, in St. Paul, VA, and was the daughter of James Robert and Laura Jane Patrick. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Frederick J. Waple, Sr., and her devoted son, Frederick J. Waple, Jr.
After graduating from Castlewood High School in VA, Mrs. Waple attended West Virginia Business College in 1941-42 and then moved to Washington, DC, to work for the Federal Government. Since it was during WWII, she was transferred to Cleveland, Ohio, where her job was reassigned at that time. After WWII, she went to work at the old Washington Times-Herald Newspaper in Washington, DC, where she met her future husband, Fred J. Waple. They were married 4 months later on July 31, 1949. They raised their children in West Lanham Hills, MD, where she met and made life-long friends. During that time, she went to work for the Bakery and Confectionary Union (B&C) of Kensington, MD, where she made dear friends. She also belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary of Greenbelt, MD. After she was widowed and retired from B&C, she moved to Bowie, MD in 1987 where she joined the Sacred Heart Church of Bowie and became a member of the Sacred Heart Sodality. She was also an active member of the St. Matthias Leisure Club of Lanham, MD, and the Southern Belles of Belair Bowie Red Hat Society of Bowie, MD, where she made many close friends.
She was also preceded in death by all of her 13 siblings-- her brothers: Allen Patrick, James Noble Patrick, and Clarence O. Patrick, all of whom lived in St. Paul, VA; Orvel W. Patrick, who was a resident of Hampton, VA; Robert Peery Patrick who lived in Pasadena, TX; and four unnamed brothers; and her sisters: Ruth Patrick Dickenson who was a resident of Titusville, Florida; Hazel Patrick Pearson of Tazewell, TN, and Dorothy Patrick Riddle and Mary Patrick Adams of Kingsport, TN.
Mrs. Waple is survived by her devoted son, Robert Patrick Waple, her devoted daughter, Laura Waple Tseronis, and loving son-in-law Gus; devoted grandson, Michael J. Waple; loving granddaughter, Lisa Tseronis; four loving great-granddaughters: Amanda Waple, Kara Moore (Jeremy); Kandis Prato (Devin), and Kaitlin Jackson (Jeremy); and 12 great-great grandchildren: Drew, Derek, Lily, Marley, Liam, Henley, Alba, Alexander, Temperance, Viola, Sage and Shepard. She is also survived by several special nephews and nieces and grand-nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Chapel in Bowie, MD, at 16501 Annapolis Rd., Bowie, MD 20715 on October 13, 2021. Interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring, MD. In lieu of flowers, if desired, memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Church in Bowie or the Benevolent Care Fund at Asbury Methodist Village, 301 Russell Avenue, Gaithersburg, MD 20877.
