It is with great sorrow that we share the news of the passing of Richard Derrick Latta, a beloved member of our community. Richard, aged 65, peacefully departed from this earthly life on September 10, 2023, in Oxon Hill, Maryland.
Richard was born on March 7, 1958, in Springfield, Massachusetts to Robert M. Latta, Sr. and June H. Wright who predeceased him. Richard is survived by his siblings Robert M. Latta, Jr., and Dawn L. West; his children Jasmine Latta, Richard D. Latta, II (Catherine), Taren Latta, and Derek Lewis; granddaughter Sadayah Pinott; and other family and friends.
Richard graduated from Wilbraham & Monson Academy in Wilbraham, MA, where he embraced the power of knowledge and personal growth. It was there that he laid the foundation for his exceptional achievements, cultivating a strong sense of character and passion for justice that would guide him throughout his life.
During his time on this earth, Richard touched countless lives with his warm smile and compassionate heart. Richard's loving and caring nature made him a beloved figure in the lives of all who knew him.
He will forever be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family and friends.
Richard dedicated himself to a long and illustrious career in law enforcement, selflessly protecting and serving his community. His courageous spirit and commitment to justice touched the lives of countless individuals, leaving an indelible impact that will not be forgotten.
A memorial service to honor Richard's life will be held at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 4512 College Avenue, College Park, Maryland on Saturday, November 11, 2023, from 10:00 – 11:00 am. Condolences can be sent to Dawn L. West, P.O. Box 427, Bowie, Maryland 20715. The family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice to honor Richard's memory. In the embrace of eternal peace, may Richard find solace and serenity. His light will forever shine in our hearts.
