Richard Davis Owings, Jr passed away on June 24th peacefully at home. Born in Westminster, Maryland on November 14, 1932 to Richard D. Owings and Janice Reigner Owings. He was predeceased by his parents as well as his only sister, Helen Ertel Grimm.
He served in the Army during the Korean War and after an honorable discharge he met his wife Sara Mae Kirchner at Southern Oxygen and married August 4, 1956. He then went to work at Roberts Oxygen where he was recruited as one of the first employees and took pride in helping launch a successful company. He retired after a long and enjoyable career.
He loved working in the yard and driving his grandchildren and great grandchildren around on his tractor. He enjoyed welding and in his free time making metal art. He also loved playing his music loudly for everyone to enjoy as well as singing hymns in church. On Sunday family drives he loved to belt out Army Cadences which we were all encouraged to sing along. He was a good friend and neighbor to many and always available to lend a helping hand. He was devoted to his family who he loved dearly and to following Jesus.
He is survived by his wife of almost 69 years – Sara M. Owings and his daughters Debbie K Barwick (Kevin) and Cynthia L Forney (Fred), his 5 grandchildren, Hannah Philpott (Billy), Matthew Barwick (Heather), Scott Forney (Amy), Kimberly Forney, Jeffrey Forney (Kasey) and 12 great grandchildren, Joshua, Zack, Ezra, Lauren, Ellen, Sam, Ben, Finley, Peyton, Palmer, Audrey & Nola.
