Robert Grady Brooks, Jr. was born on April 30, 1950 to the late Robert and Grace Brooks. Bob
grew up in Riverdale, MD with his mother, Grace and his siblings, Timothy Brooks and Lynn
Parks-Cooper. He was always surrounded by his big Italian family of aunts, uncles, and
cousins. A devout catholic, he attended St. Bernard’s for grade school, Gonzaga High School,
and St. Anselm in New Hampshire for college.
He worked for the Government Printing Office (GPO) on North Capitol Street for 17 years and
the Department of Army as a Publishing Program Officer for 23 years. On the side, he started
his own Videography business, Videoccasions Unlimited. In 2007, after 40 years in the federal
service, he took a contractor job as the printing and graphics manager at the Federal Aviation
Administration. At the age of 62, he finally saw the light and decided to retire for good and focus
on improving his golf game.
He met his wife, Susan Sykes Brooks, in 1978 at the bowling alley and they married on May 31,
1980. He was the proud and loving father of their three children: Kimberly Brooks, Kevin Brooks,
Kelly Cheriyala and father-in-law of Rahul Cheriyala. He coached all of his children in various
sports and enjoyed partaking in their extra-curricular activities. He was always the life of the
party and loved to host family and friends in his homes in Gambrills and Ocean Pines. You
could find him living the life at the beach every summer, on the golf course, traveling, or
watching sports.
