Robert Lee Moltz, Sr. “Big Bob”, 78, of Bowie MD, passed away on August 10, 2020, peacefully at home in the company of his children.
Bob was born December 26, 1941 to Michael and Carrie Moltz, one of their thirteen children. He graduated from Northwestern High in Hyattsville MD. He married the former Carolyn “Day” Gambrell on December 16, 1961 in Columbia SC. In the early part of his work career he was a pressman, mostly, at the Washington Post before transitioning to the building industry. He and his brother, Mikey, ran their own company, Moltz Bros. Home Improvement, before moving on to and ultimately retiring from Charles E Smith as a construction superintendent after 20 years of service.
Bob was a long time dedicated volunteer for The College Park Boys and Girls Club; even serving as commissioner for multiple sports, coordinating the annual parade and, of course, coaching all of his children to multiple championships. He was an active car enthusiast and loved to tinker with antique automobiles. Bob was an avid golfer and very artistic. Many admired his works. Additionally, he was often praised for his fancy footwork on the dance floor. “Big Bob” never met a stranger, any room he entered was immediately his to own. Cracking jokes and making everyone laugh would mark any Bobby, Sr. sighting. The impact he left on those he met was cherished by all privileged to have acquainted.
Bob is preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, “Day”. She was the apple of his eye and was treated as such. Additionally, Brothers Joe, Mikey, Monty, Colin, and sisters Lorraine Wuerschmidt, Dorothy Jackson, Mary Lou “Mernie” Brezina, Carolyn Kettner and Betty Smandra passed before him.
Bob is survived by his children Bobby Jr. and wife Denise of West River MD, Jimmy and wife Linda of Owings MD, Danny and wife Stacie of Edgewater MD and Suzie Wilson, husband Ronnie of Bowie MD: His surviving siblings are George “ Eddie” Moltz of Myrtle Beach SC, Beverly Kahl of Beltsville MD, Preston Moltz of Edgewater MD: grandchildren Tyler (Julianne), Cameron, James Anthony, Lauren, A. Preston, and Trent as well as a host of nieces and nephews and their families.
After the pandemic subsides, a celebration of life will be planned to commemorate his incredible life journey. The family is thankful for all the well wishes, kind words and assistance given during this time of mourning.
