Robert L. Snyder, Sr.

February 27, 1938 — December 2, 2019

Robert Lee Snyder, Sr., of Hyattsville, Maryland passed away unexpectedly on December 2, 2019 at the age of 81 years old. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Robert, affectionately known as Bob by some, was born on February 27, 1938 in Catharpin, Virginia to Shirley Thomas and Rita Mae Snyder (both deceased). After the death of his father Shirley, his mother Rita relocated to Washington, DC where Robert grew up and attended DC Public Schools as an Honor Student.

He met the love of his life, Pauline through a friend (who happened to be Pauline’s cousin). They were soon married on June 29, 1956 and had seven children, five daughters and two sons.

Robert was a loyal employee. He worked 32 years as a night Manager with The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, better known as A&P, where he retired in 1989. He started a second career with PG County Police Department as a Crossing Guard, where he worked for 14 years before he finally retired in 2003. He was awarded the “Most Dependable Employee” by both employers. He carried that quality throughout his life.

Robert dedicated his life to Jehovah and he and Pauline were baptized together, as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on February 6, 1988. Robert has always had a longing for Bible knowledge and was an avid reader of God’s Word. He was known for his zeal for the ministry, which he demonstrated by serving as a regular pioneer for many years. Robert also talked about God’s promises for the future to his family and friends, often. He was always the first to arrive at his Christian meetings, just to greet his fellow brothers, sisters and visitors. He served as an Elder and Secretary for two congregations and was known for his attention to detail and great organizational skills. Robert will be missed by ALL!
