Robert “Bob-O” Wagner
July 23, 1947 – August 4, 2019
On Sunday August 4, 2019, Robert Wagner, lovingly known as Bob-O, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home with his beloved wife and “bride” as he affectionately referred to her, Sharon by his side. He was a loving and devoted father to Scott (Erin) Wagner and Katherine (Kyle) Bray. He was blessed with four grandchildren, Colin, Brooks, Hank and Lily. His also survived by his brother Paul Wagner, brother-in-law Bruce Walter and sister-in-law, Lynn Walter; nephews and nieces, Brian, Ryan, Tommy, Tracy and Jordan. Bob-O is further survived by a wonderful community of soccer players, parents, teams and friends from the years he coached numerous teams from 1992 to 2012.
Bob-O was born in Waltham, MA on July 23, 1947, the son of the late Marjorie Hauswirth, and was raised in Watertown, MA. His family relocated to College Park, MD where he attended and graduated from High Point High School. He met his now wife of 50 years, Sharon, the summer after graduation in Ocean City, MD. Bob-O enlisted in the Army in 1967 and is a proud U.S Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. He married Sharon upon his safe return home in 1968 and then studied at and graduated from Benjamin Franklin University School of Accountancy.
Bob-O began his 30+ year career at a CPA firm and then transitioned to the U.S. Department of Labor where he retired from in 2005. During that time he welcomed his son Scott in 1981 and daughter Katherine “Katie” in 1984. His son Scott’s middle name is Christopher, notably after the Patron Saint of Travel for Bob-O’s safe return home after his time serving his country.
He was a dedicated father involved in every sport, activity and event that Scott or Katie took on. He brought energy, love and excitement to their pursuits and fell upon a passion of his own when he took on coaching Katie’s first soccer team, the “Crofton Cats” in 1992. This coaching position spurred his 20+ year span creating memories, supporting talents, studying the sport and making life-long friendships with an incredible community that became like a second family. In addition, he was an avid fan of the NY Yankees, enjoyed Maryland crabs at every birthday, loved to golf and soaked up every second of a MD Live date with his bride. Bob-O savored seconds this world gave him and brought happiness to all that he met. Our hearts are heavy with his passing but the vivid and joyful memories bring much peace.
