Rolande was born in Van Buren, Maine on May 17, 1941 to Rudolph Blier and Emma Duperry Blier. She was the oldest of four children. Rolande was an outstanding student and excelled in elementary, middle, high school, college and graduate school. After earning her Master’s Degree in Social Work from American University, she stayed in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. She was employed briefly in Montgomery County Government, but spent virtually her entire career with Prince George’s County Government. Rolande’s passion was working to better the lives of young people, especially those most in need. Ms. Blier ran the Office of the Youth Coordinator and literally hundreds of young people profited from Rolande’s leadership, advocacy, guidance and direction, Lives were changed and opportunities were created by Rolande’s persistence and commitment to do whatever had to be done for the youth she served.
Rolande was predeceased by her parents Rudolph and Emma Blier, her husbands Peter P. Devaney and George L. Reuter. She is survived by her surrogate daughter Josephine Howison, sister Angela Maloney (Gerry), brothers Alan Blier (Sue) and Rudy Blier (Suzanne), Also survived by nieces and nephews Maeghan Maloney (Christopher), Michaella Prasad (Sandip), Matthew Maloney (Kristina), Christopher Blier (Christina), Heather Blier, and Jocelyn Schaef (Daniel) as well as countless dear friends and relatives.
Viewing will be on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at the Beall Funeral Home, 6512 NW Crain Highway (Rt. 3 South), Bowie, MD from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm, followed by the Funeral Service at 12:30. Burial will be at Cheltenham Veteran’s Cemetery.
