Ronald Carter Mitchell

February 7, 1933 — October 10, 2021

Ronald Carter Mitchell, lovingly known as Mitch, was born on February 7, 1933, in Asheville, North Carolina, to Charles and Edith (Thompson) Mitchell. He married Frances Ruth Mitchell on December 1, 1955, in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He traveled the world with his Wife and daughters while serving in the U.S. Air Force as a Master Sargent. They lived in: Okinawa, Japan for 4 years; England for 5 years; San Angelo, Texas for 5 years, and Fort Meade for 3 years. He played and coached baseball for the U.S. Air Force for several years.  After his retirement in 1975, their family settled in Crofton, Md.  There he was employed by 7-Eleven as a manager, the Red Caboose as a cook and manager, as well as MNCPPC MD-Parks and Recreation at the Bowie Community Center for over 30 years, ultimately retiring in 2015.

Mitch was a “die hard” Dallas Cowboys fan. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, playing golf, coaching little league baseball, cooking, raising his granddaughter, and being a part of his great grandchildren’s lives. His family wrote: "There is no other man quite like Mitch.  He would walk into a room and immediately fill it with love and laughter.  He was charismatic, non-judgmental, giving, and a god-fearing man. His compassion towards others has impacted the lives of many. We are forever grateful for the love and compassion he has taught us.”

He is survived by his daughters, Beverly Diane Mitchell, Donna Marie Mitchell, Ramona Lynn Mitchell,  daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda Carolee (Mitchell) Dunmyer and David Lee Dunmyer.   He is also survived by six grandchildren, Shannon Marie (Mitchell) Farmer, Stephen Graham Woodard, Mitchell Pierce Woodard, Robert Mitchell Dunmyer, Michael Alan Dunmyer, Daniel Matthew Austin; and four great grandchildren, Marlee Ruth Jiron, Leonel “Leo” Ronaldo Jiron, Lorelei Rayne Woodard and Grafton Royce Woodard. Further survived by siblings, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
