Ruby Lee Hargrove

July 20, 1927 — August 21, 2021

Ruby Lee Hargrove, age 94, passed away August 21st, 2021 at her home in Maryland. Ruby was born July 20th, 1927 to Amzi and Henrietta Smith in Blacksburg, South Carolina. She is survived by Charles D. Hargrove (son), Tamara V. Barros (daughter), J’melle J. Hargrove (daughter), Leenadria Ubannwa (granddaughter), Rasheeda Ali (granddaughter), Augustine Charles Ubannwa (great-grandson), Valentine Allen (sister), Gilbert Howell (brother) and a host of nieces and nephews.

She has lived a full life of service to her family, friends, and community. She married Charles D. Hargrove March 25, 1951 and had 3 children. She spent much of her life as a military wife traveling the world with her family in service of her country. Having dreamed of becoming a nurse since she was a child, when the opportunity presented itself, she went to school and became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). She worked with patients in a facility for mental challenges and was also a private home nurse. After retiring from nursing, she worked at the Adelphi University Library and volunteered her time for various charities.

She enjoyed shopping, talking to her sisters, was an avid Scrabble player, loved literature and spending time in the library, and reading her bible. Of utmost importance to her were here relationships with her family and friends. As she has faced life’s adversities she always remained positive, citing “tough times don’t last, tough people do.” Her strong will and her gentle heart will be missed deeply by all who had the privilege to know here.

Services are  scheduled for Friday, August 27, 2021 from 3-5pm at Beall Funeral Home, 6512 Crain Highway, Bowie, MD 20715. MASKS ARE REQUIRED TO BE WORN INSIDE THE BUILDING
