Russell (“Russ”) M. Thumann

Beloved son, father and brother passed away on June 17, 2023 due to small cell lung cancer at the age of 61.  Russ was born on January 29, 1962 in Washington, DC to Don and Darla Thumann.  After graduation from Bowie High School he joined the United States Navy where he earned a culinary arts degree and became a chef serving on the USS Reclaimer stationed at Hikam Air Force Base in Hawaii.  Later upon leaving the service he continued to work as a chef in the food industry for many years.  Russ enjoyed lots of outdoor activities including fishing, camping and recently discovered birdwatching.  He was an avid fan of the rock group Grateful Dead and really enjoyed classic cars.  He was preceded in death by his father, Don Thumann and son Justin Thumann.  He is survived by his mother, Darla Thumann-Harmel, his stepdad, Melvin Harmel, Sr., son, Brandon Thumann, brother Bradley Thumann (Angie) and nieces, Lauren and Ashley Thumann.  . 

Friends and family are welcome to join us on Friday, June 23^rd for visitation at 11am and the service at 12noon at Holy Family Catholic Church (chapel).  Interment to immediately follow at Lakemont Memorial Gardens in Davidsonville, MD.
