With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Sharon Veronica Dobson Hanley, who departed this life on February 1, 2025, at Adventist HealthCare White Oak Medical Center. She was 66 years old.
Sharon was born on April 2, 1958, in Kingston, Jamaica, to Violet and Vincent Dobson. The eldest of five children, she embraced her role as a nurturing and devoted sister. She carried this same love and throughout her life, always placing family and others before herself.
In the early 1980s, Sharon immigrated to the United States, determined to build a better life for herself and her loved ones. In June of 1983, she began what would become a 35-year-long career at the National Lutheran Home, where her dedication to caregiving touched the lives of countless patients and colleagues. Going above and beyond was second nature to her—helping was not just a job; it was her calling.
On April 18, 1983, she welcomed her first son, Bruce Michael Worrell, into the world. A few years later, on June 12, 1986, Sharon married the love of her life, Lynroy Sylvester Hanley. Together, they built a beautiful family, welcoming their daughter Lynsha Therese Hanley on June 9, 1987, and their son Tariq Sharrad Lynroy Hanley on August 8, 1991. Sharon was a devoted wife and mother, always ensuring her family’s happiness and well-being.
A true pillar of strength, she helped sponsor her parents and siblings to come to America, opening doors for their futures just as she had done for herself. Her generosity knew no bounds—Sharon always gave, often sacrificing her own needs to help others. She was a caregiver not only to her patients but also to her mother, father, and late mother-in-law.
Sharon found joy in life’s simple pleasures—playing bingo, listening to gospel music, cooking, and spending cherished moments with her grandchildren. Her laughter was contagious, her kindness unmatched, and her presence a source of comfort to all who knew her.
Sharon leaves behind her husband, Lynroy Hanley; her beloved children, Bruce Worrell, Lynsha Hanley, and Tariq Hanley; her father, Vincent Dobson; her siblings, Merline Fullerton, Amy Miller, and John Dobson; her treasured grandchildren, Nora Molock, Brielle Worrell, Jody Hanley, and James Gross; and a host of extended family and friends who will forever hold her memory close.
Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we find solace in the love she shared and the beautiful legacy she leaves behind. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
