Rick Slade passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 in Odenton, Maryland at the age of 56. Sherman Richard Slade was born in Mesa, Arizona on February 15, 1963 to Darrell Ellis Slade and Jean Chesley. He was the youngest of 7 children and his dad liked to call him “Lucky 7”.
He was a hard worker from a young age, milking 2 cows twice a day and delivering papers in the early morning for many years.
Rick graduated from Westwood High School and served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Ohio, Cleveland mission. He spent a few years as a Sun Devil at Arizona State University and graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Before his ASU days, he attended Brigham Young University for one year, where he met his future wife, Sharon.
The couple eventually moved to the DC area where Kate was born. They were a very happy threesome!
Kate continues to be their pride and joy.
Rick worked in the DC area as a network engineer at SAIC, NCIS and the NSA. He also served in many callings in the Church, including Bishop of the Bowie Ward.
Rick enjoyed spending time with his family. He also liked to design and make toys. Halloween was his favorite holiday and he would spend days preparing special sets for the big night. His happy disposition, quick wit and cheerful smile made him a joy to be around. He was usually whistling a happy tune.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years Sharon, beloved daughter Kate, and siblings Sharon Masoner (James), Ken Slade (Denna), Susan Scow (Stanton), Ron Slade (Marie), Peggy Slade, and Cathy Barrick (Ed).
