August 3, 1929 - July 2, 2021

Shirley A. Gildersleeve went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 2, 2021 at her home in Bowie, MD surrounded by her loved ones. Born on August 3, 1929 in Kingston, New York. She is cherished and loved and will be dearly missed. 

As a military wife she spent time in numerous states and countries including England, Spain and Okinawa with her husband and young family.  Resided in Bowie, MD since 1968. She loved her time at NASA as a branch secretary (for 13 scientists and made many friends there), she retired in 1995.  

A devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a Christian and a long time member of Grace Baptist Church. She enjoyed her family, her church/Sunday school, going to garage sales and ice cream.    

Shirley was preceded in death by her sister Delores Kenyon, parents Benjamin and Bertha Kenyon, beloved husband Msgt. Walter B. Gildersleeve, great-granddaughters Kailey and Loryn and son Thomas Gildersleeve. She is survived by her sons Larry Gildersleeve, Steve Gildersleeve (Linda) and daughters Linda Ponta and Valerie Gildersleeve. Shirley also leaves 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren (1 on the way!). 

Shirley will be buried with her devoted husband, Walter, at Crownsville Veterans Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Baptist Church, Bowie, MD in memory of Shirley A. Gildersleeve.
