Shirley Mae (Parham) Meadows, a long-time resident of Upper Marlboro, MD took her eternal rest on June 15, 2024. Shirley was born in Richmond, VA to the late Bejamin Murphy and Euginia Parham on April 18, 1936. She spent her childhood between Richmond, VA and Jarrett, VA where she was raised by Elijah and Celand Moore who affectionately called her Cheromee. She graduated from Sussex County Training School (1955) in Waverly, VA and is a proud graduate of St. Paul College (1960) in Lawrenceville, VA where she earned her degree in Education. She began her career as a teacher in Richmond, VA and later in Alexandria Public School System. She finished her career as a Media Specialist in PG County Schools where she retired in 2001. She met and married Donald E. Meadows on December 21, 1963, and from that union two children were born Felicia Meadows and Sheree (Meadows) Johnson. She was a proud member of Hemingway Memorial A.M.E. Church where she sang in the choir.
An outgoing person, Shirley enjoyed talking to people every chance she would get. Her hobbies included singing, sewing, ceramics and tending to her pond in her backyard. On May 1, 2011, she fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming a member of the Rho Mu Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Besides caring for her family, she also helped anyone when needed. She loved family vacations and every summer Shirley created memories by loading the green van with no back seats or seatbelts to take her daughters and their friends to Kings Dominion. Shirley was also passionate about cooking. Her food was amazing, and she cooked all the time. Some of her specialty dishes were chicken salad puffs, quiche, and hot rolls with butter.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her husband Donald Meadows; two daughters Felicia Meadows and Sheree (Meadows) Johnson; six granddaughters Cearra, Charli, Chaela, Carrie, Sydney, and Meadow; her sister Odelia Gibbs; her first cousins Eleanor Jackson and Suzanne Watkins; her sister-in-law Dorothy Yancey and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
