Sofia Isabelle Peck was one in a melon. She was born in Honolulu Hawaii on May 2nd 2005. Sofia loved puns, therefore to honor her this obituary will be slightly punny in places.
Sofia was the type of person who would stop to help a stranger, even if she was busy, and would pick up litter, even if no one was looking. She wore simple comfortable clothes and had no interest in makeup which melded nicely with her easy going, down to earth, simplicity. She radiated a calming kindness and her friends would jokingly call her mom because of her level headed advice. Sadly, the world only got to enjoy Sofia’s spirit for 16 short years, as she was taken from us on 2 January 2022.
From the very beginning Sofia was perfection. Her effervescent smile and sparkling eyes light up any room she was in, and was a perpetually happy infant and toddler, so much so that complete strangers would regularly comment on her sparkling eyes and often say she looked just like the Gerber Baby.
Sofia spent her first five years on the island of Oahu growing up in a beach house, where she happily played with friends, enjoyed the beach, and played soccer. When she wasn’t in soccer shoes she lived in sandals because she loved having Fritos. It was a hard day for Sofia when we moved to the mainland and she discovered she had to wear closed toed shoes to school. Throughout her entire life, if she could wear sandals she would, even in the snow!
Before she turned 2 Sofia welcomed her only sibling Auna Peck into the world with utter excitement. Together Sofia and her sister would seize control of large sections of the kitchen, sing songs all hours of the day, build mud slides in the yard, and start ruff housing wars with their father every chance they could.
In June 2010, she moved to Pasadena Maryland. There she met what would be her first pet dog, a labrador named Katie. As her parents were looking at a house for possible purchase, Sofia was in the backyard playing with the resident's black lab, happily throwing a tennis ball and getting all kinds of dog kisses and tail wags. In this way, Sofia picked out both her new home and the beloved dog Katie that ended up coming with it. She would not stop there, in 2013 she got a toy poodle and named him Super, he was never far from her side, and she often referred to Super as her son. While she claimed it took Super a while to warm up to her, the video evidence of him following her everywhere within days of joining the family proves otherwise. Sofia spent the rest of her life surrounded by dogs, she really was the ultimutt dog lover.
Sofia moved back to Oahu in 2015 where she joined Girl Scouts and spent most of her time doing outdoor activities like swimming with the sharks, and traveling to the big Island of Hawaii, Kauai, and even going on a helicopter ride to visit the privately island of Ni’ihao! She started her first job in 2017 as a babysitter for several families, Sofia excelled in this role and earned the adoration of every child she watched.
In her early teen years Sofia blossomed into an amazing and responsible young lady, working whenever she could while also maintaining straight A’s in school. This was when Her love of anime began to blossom, her favorite anime show was Violet Evergarden.
In 2018 Sofia moved to Bowie Maryland, where she continued challenging herself with soccer, gymnastics, and piano. Her scholastic prowess continued as well earning her acceptance into the advance placement SUMMIT program at Bowie High School and acceptance into the National Honor Society. She became interested in being a pilot, so she spent the summer of 2019 taking a pilot course in Wisconsin where she flew her first airplane. In 2021, Sofia begrudgingly learned to drive a manual-transmission car, though for obvious reasons she preferred driving her mom’s automatic Lexus..
Sofia's death did not come suddenly, but rather after a long hard year of battling for her life. Because of this Sofia had the time to ask that we not have a traditional funeral where “everyone is quiet and sad” but instead have a happy get together where people can eat popcorn, which was her favorite food, and in case anyone was sad we should provide ice cream to help them cheer up. In an effort to provide her with this wish, the family plans to have a celebration of life event in the spring. Everyone who wishes to celebrate her life with us and enjoy popcorn and ice cream is welcome to attend, details about the event will be posted on her Caring Bridge site and at

Sofia will live in the memories of her family and friends forever and is missed more than words could ever describe. She is survived by her sister Auna, her loving parents Angie and Cory, and of course her beloved dog Super.
