All services are private.

Sophoclis John “Soph” Sophocleus of Ellicott City, MD passed away on April 23, 2020 at the age of 90 of natural causes. He is survived by his beloved wife Ann (Davis) of 61 years; his daughter Diana and her husband Christos Motsiopoulos; his son John and his wife Theresa; grandchildren Alexander, Kelly, Emmanuel and Natalia Motsiopoulos; his brother Dr. Gregory Sophocleus; and many nieces, nephews, godchildren and friends, all of whom he loved dearly.

Soph was the son of Greek immigrants, the late John and Despina Sophocleus. He was born in Baltimore, MD where he and his brothers, Gregory and Theodore, grew up in Highlandtown. Soph graduated from Patterson High School in 1949. After high school he went into the Navy and was stationed at Norfolk, VA. A true Baltimorean, Soph was a master electrician, and worked on many iconic and well-known Baltimore landmarks such as the Morris Mechanic Theater, National Aquarium, and Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

After retirement Soph worked as an usher at Oriole Park for 20 years, and was well loved by those who frequented his section.  He was a devoted family man and member of the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation, and he could always be found working in the dining room for the Cathedral’s Greek Food and Cultural Festival. Making friends wherever he went, always going out of his way to make sure those closest to him shared in his blessings.

Services and internment are private, but we ask that you simply take a moment to remember Soph, a man of character and spirit who will truly be missed.
