Stanley was born on 26 January 1932 in East St. Louis, Missouri to Stan and Barbara Jacknewitz. He spent a large amount of his time with his brother, Vince, and with extended Polish family members in the family tavern, The Mad Dog. For a variety of reasons, he chose to leave St. Louis and joined the Air Force in 1950.
As luck would have it, after returning from Korea, he was assigned to Notre Dame University in South Bend, Indiana and met the love of his life, Esther, on a blind date. They married on 7 July 1956 and traveled together to various Air Force posts. Stanley was a wonderful father to four children. Unfortunately, their first child, James, passed away when he was only a day old, but while they were still in South Bend, Joy was born. The military relocated them to Montana, where Jean was born, and then to DC, where Jane was born. The family did a tour of duty in Hawaii and then back to the DC area. They settled in Maryland after Stan retired from the Air Force in 1970 after attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. He promptly became a Parole and Probation Agent for the state of Maryland where he retired in 1994. Not one to settle peacefully into permanent retirement, Stanley then volunteered as a classroom aide working with severely disabled children.
Stanley loved animals and the family always had a dog or cat in the home. He even learned to ride horses when he and Esther adopted two horses after their youngest daughter left home to join the Army.
After a “final” retirement, Stan and Esther loved going on trips with their family. Stan loved taking countless cruises, always with Esther by his side, and many with the extended family and friends. He and Esther were also faithful parishioners at Village Baptist Church.
Stanley is now reunited with his beloved wife, Esther, who passed away on 3 January 2020, as well as their Baby James. He is survived by three loving daughters, their spouses, 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, because of his love of animals, donations should be made to: Rude Ranch Animal Rescue, Inc. 3200 Ivy Way, Harwood, MD 20776. https://www.ruderanch.org/donate/in-honormemory/
