Thomas F. Dunphy, Sr. (Age 85) of College Park, MD, went to be with his Lord on December 13, 2022. He rejoins his beloved wife of 64 years, Melva Milstead Dunphy.
Born on May 27, 1937 in Harlem, New York City, New York, Tommy, as he was known by all; was the son of the late Thelma Chumbris and Howard Clodfelter. Raised primarily in Nanuet, New York and Southeast Washington, DC, Tommy attended Eastern High School where he met and in 1954 married Melva, the great love of his life. The couple made their home in Takoma Park, Palmer Park and then College Park, MD.
Tommy proudly served his country in the
U.S.Army as a tank commander. Although he loved Army life and was soldier of the month several times ...he loved Melva more and returned home to his family where for the next 47 years at Yellow Cab Company in DC. An accomplished guitar player, mechanic and bowler, an avid sports fan (especially Redskins football and Yankees and Orioles baseball), vocal cheerleader at family events, Tommy enjoyed time with family and friends, dinner out, classic country and bluegrass music, TV, dancing and quiet evenings by the fire. Loving, cheerful, faithful and fun, Tommy was very precious to us and we miss him already.
Tommy leaves here his children, Thomas F. Dunphy, Jr (Rose), Cheryl A. Johnson (Dan), Charles A. Dunphy, his sister Rosalie Posey (Terry), his grandchildren, great grandchildren, a large extended family and many friends to cherish his memory.
