Thomas Michael Hans

July 29, 1953 – June 12, 2020

Our laughter and light dimmed when our father, brother and favorite buddy,  Thomas Michael Hans passed away.

We are trying to find words to describe him.  He was kind, generous, supportive, accepting, sweet, gentle, and funny as hell. There are more words but undoubtedly we would still miss the mark.

Tom’s life was all about family.  He is survived by his son, Derrick Thomas, his step children, Megan Hope Pierce and Joseph Garris , two very loved step- grandchildren and his perfect companion, Gina Alvarado.

Tom was born in Washington, D. C. on July 29, 1953 to John and Catherine Hans, (deceased).  His shenanigans will be missed  by his siblings;  Carol (Robert) Reddersen, Suzanne ( Richard) Burbidge, John Hans, Christine Moore, Richard (Judi) Hans and Michael (Kim) Hans and his numerous nieces and nephews.

His circle of friends was as diverse as was extensive, and included golf buddies, his motorcycle gang, firearm enthusiasts, high school cronies and all his daily contacts, and there were many.  Nothing compared to his eclectic taste in music from early years listening to George Carlin, “The Seven Words You Can’t Say On TV” ,  to his favorite drummer, guitarist and vocalist, Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters.

Tom was a friend and helping hand to everyone that crossed his path.  It was impossible for him to say “no”.  He could brighten your day with his infectious laughter and was never without a new joke or two.

He graduated from the University of Maryland with a BS degree  in, of all things…Zoology.  After college and a stint as a ski bum  he found his passion at State Farm in the insurance trade with his dear friend and partner, Phil Jimeno.

Our collective prayer is that over time all the love, companionship, support, humor and amazing memories he provided will help us heal.

If you wish to honor Tom, please make a donation to The Living Legacy Foundation of Maryland.(thellf.org).

In lieu of a funeral, family and friends will be celebrating his life at a later date.
