Pastor Thomas Krepps passed away on July 4th, 2020. Tom was born on April 13th, 1955 in Queens New York. He is survived by his loving wife, Andrea, of 42 years, his sons, Stephen and David, his adoring family, his parishioners, and all the people he impacted during his years of service.
Throughout his career Pastor Tom was dedicated to innovation, community outreach, and spreading not just the word of God, but also His love and compassion. Open minded and forward thinking, he would never deny aid or counsel to anyone regardless of their past mistakes or current flaws. He didn’t judge people, he never turned anyone away, and dedicated his life to helping others.
Pastor Tom had a flair for public speaking, he was a gifted writer, and truly enjoyed delivering his sermons. His congregations were enthralled by the jokes or anecdotes he would tell, that would then be artfully woven into his sermon’s theme. Years after hearing a sermon, his parishioners would fondly recall a story or a punchline, and more importantly; the message behind it.
Those that knew the man and not just the pastor will always remember him for how vibrant and personable he was. The life of any gathering, he loved telling stories and interacting with people. His passions included cooking for others, old school rock, and any activity that enabled him to spend time with his sons. A fan of any New York sports team and the Ravens, his favorite thing to do was taking his boys to games and training camps.
Anyone that knew Pastor Tom would agree that no memory of him could be complete without one of his jokes. In a Lutheran school cafeteria, a teacher places a note in front of a pile of apples; ‘Only take one. God is watching.’ Further down the line is a pile of cookies so a little boy makes his own note; ‘Take all you want. God is watching the apples.’ A kind, intelligent, and charismatic man, Pastor Tom will be sorely missed.
Due to Covid19 restrictions the funeral will be a small affair for immediate family. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to cc-md.org and designate it for Our Daily Bread or Sarah’s House. Pastor Tom lived his life in service to those in need and he would want us to continue that work in his stead.
