Thomas D. Shomper

August 16, 1947 — June 26, 2020

Thomas “Tom” Dean Shomper was born on August 16, 1947 in Old Sibley Hospital in Washington DC to Lorraine and Dean Shomper.  He was the oldest of their four children. The Shomper family lived in a home on Clark Place in Northwest Washington DC and later moved to their permanent home (out in the country at that time) in Bethesda, Maryland. Tom exceled in school and graduated from Walt Whitman High School in 1966.  He then went on to St. Josephs College in Indiana where he majored in Finance. Upon his return from college, he was drafted for the Vietnam War where he served in Germany as a Radioman.  He returned to Bethesda to begin his successful career in Banking and Finance. An avid car enthusiast, Tom and his brother, Mike, opened East Riverdale Garage.  After selling the business, Tom finished his career in Medical Billing. As a retired person, Tom enjoyed biking and hiking, painting, and attending car shows.  Kind of heart, Tom was very attentive and caring to his parents in their later years. He was a frequent visitor to local Green family events and all enjoyed Uncle Tom’s company and humorous stories.

He is survived by his brothers Dale Shomper of Germantown, Maryland, Michael Shomper (Georgiana) of Champions Gate, Florida and his sister Patricia Green (Leo) of Bowie, Maryland.  He was devoted to his nieces and nephews Dean Shomper, Corie Crawford (Keith), Michael Shomper (Shashi), Jessica Martin (Matthew), Ellen Blumhardt (Andrew), Lucas Green (Jessica) and Emma Green.
