Thomas James Smith a longtime resident of Bowie, Maryland left his earthly home on March 25, 2021 to be with Jesus in his eternal home. Tom was born to Charles and Dorothy Smith on September 25, 1956 in Emerson, New Jersey. When he was 10 years old, the family relocated to Bowie, Maryland.
Tom attended local and Catholic schools growing up. He graduated from DeMatha Catholic High School in 1974. He enjoyed playing baseball throughout middle school and high school. Tom continued his education, graduating from Wheeling University in West Virginia with a BA degree in accounting. He spent the majority of his accounting career working at the Government Printing Office until his retirement.
Tom loved sports and enjoyed watching his favorite teams, The New York Giants and The Washington Nationals. His other interests included listening to music, watching movies, reading scripture, various sporting events and going to the beach.
Tom was a quiet soul with a big heart. He was quick with a compliment and strived to make everyone comfortable with his kind words. His warm smile would put anyone at ease. He enjoyed getting together with his family for special occasions and holidays.
Tom was a parishioner at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and found comfort in attending daily Mass. He also attended a local Bible Study where he met many new friends.
Tom will be missed by all who knew him. Tom is survived by his brother Charles Thomas Smith and sister-in law Cheryl Haskell. His sister Marianne Smith Campanella and brother-in-law Pietro Campanella and nieces, Keira and Gianna. His brother Joseph William Smith and sister in-law Kristin Smith and nieces, Skye, Alexa, Sophia and Francesca and nephew Aidan. His parents Charles Smith and Dorothy Goodman Smith (both deceased).
Rest in Peace now in the loving arms of Jesus. We love you Tom.
There will be a Funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in the Chapel on April 14, 2021 at 11:00am. Internment is private.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to St. Jude Children's Hospital in Thomas's name.
