On Monday, August 1st, 2022, Veronica Schiff passed away at the age of 96 years old. Gathered unto God, Vern is once again reunited with her beloved husband Marvin and with her brothers and sisters.
Born on January 2nd, 1926, Veronica Amelia Jane Stezoski saw first-hand the poverty of the great depression, the devastation of World War II and the love, dedication, and bravery that she and so many of her friends and family used to make it through.
After the end of the war, she obtained a degree as a registered nurse from the University of Pittsburgh and became a public health researcher at various medical institutions within the city. She was particularly proud to have been associated with Pitt during the time when Jonah Salk invented the polio vaccine and she spoke often of her many meetings with him.
It was at the university where she met Dr. Marvin Schiff and fell in love, despite the fact that she was Roman Catholic and he an orthodox Jew. After many years of engagement, they were finally married on November 1st, 1963. Sadly, they were soon parted when Marvin died on September 10th, 1966 after a short battle with cancer. They had one child, Conrad, from the union.
In the fall of 1999, Conrad and his wife Mariana, brought Vern to live with them in Bowie, MD, where she remained until her death. She is survived by them and their children Jacqueline Miller and Christopher Schiff.
