Vincent Augustus Jenoure

January 18, 1928 — November 2, 2021

Vincent Augustus Jenoure was born on January 18, 1928 in New York City. He transitioned on November 2, 2021 at the age of 93 in Bowie, MD.  The fifth of six children, he was the son of Jamaican immigrants. He grew up in Harlem and joined the army toward the end of W.W.II, serving for two years in the U.S. and in Guam. Upon return home, his older brother Everett arranged a blind date for the returning serviceman with a young Puerto Rican girl from the neighborhood. Vincent went on the date and would soon marry that girl, Lydia Lopez, in 1950. They had three children together.  Vincent Augustus Jenoure worked hard to make a comfortable life for his family. He was employed by the U.S. Post Office for 35 years until retirement, first as a clerk and then as a supervisor, and on weekends, he drove a taxi.  A long-time member of the New York City Mission Society summer camp Green Acres and Church of the Good Neighbor, he was a little league coach and personal sports coach to his sons, an astute guru of current events to his daughter, and a poor loser at scrabble in those daily games with his wife.

In 1991, Vincent and Lydia left New York City and moved to Maryland to be closer to the family, who have had the honor of caring for his every need until his last breath when he died peacefully at home.

Vincent Augustus Jenoure has lived a remarkable life of love. His shoes can never be filled. He is remembered by his nieces, nephews, and grandchildren for his mischievous sense of humor, each of whom have their own special tale of how he tricked them. He is remembered by his children for his wisdom and unconditional support and by his wife for his devotion over 71 years of marriage. All the family remembers him as the world’s best storyteller. Hands down!

He is survived by his loving wife Lydia, his children Theresa (Michael O’Bannon), Vincent and Maurice (Rita), grandchildren Chardae (James McCreary) and Tia, great granddaughter Dylan, sister Jacqueline Grace Jenoure, and numerous nieces and nephews.
