VINCENT JOHNS
Passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 12, 2019. Vincent Johns was born on June 16, 1935, in Baltimore, Maryland, to James Edward Johns and Julia Hopkins Johns. He was the oldest of seven children and attended schools in Baltimore. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp until his honorable discharge in 1957.
Vincent earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at Howard University and later received a Masters degree in Student Personnel Administration. He was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and Alpha Phi Omega Service Fraternity.
He began his employment at Howard University in 1962. In 1969, he was appointed as Director of Student Activities. Then in 1979, he became Dean for Student Life & Activities. In 1989, Vincent was promoted to Dean of Special Student Services where he was responsible for all matters pertaining to students with disabilities.
After retirement in June 2000, Vincent volunteered at Doctors’ Community Hospital. He was also a mentor at Bowie High School under the City of Bowie’s Teen Mentoring Program.
In 1967, Vincent was joined in marriage to Patricia Louise Anders, and together they had two sons, Gregory and Darryl.
Vincent is predeceased by his mother and father, sister Earline, brothers Delbert, Webster, and Branch. Vincent is survived by his devoted wife, Patricia, sons Gregory (Bethany) and Darryl, grandson Raymond, sister Melinda, brother Kevin, and a host of friends and relatives.
A Memorial Service will be held at Collington Life Care Community, 10450 Lottsford Road, Mitchellville MD 20721 on Wednesday January 23, 2019 at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers , a memorial contribution may be made to "The Collington Foundation" for the Scholarship Fund 10450 Lottsford Rd Mitchellville, Md 20721.
