Virgilio R. Mandapat

November 9, 1956 — January 5, 2019

FUNERAL SERVICE HAVE BEEN POSTPONED DUE TO WEATHER. NEW FUNERAL DATE IS:

Tuesday, January 15, 2019 from 5pm to 8pm at Beall Funeral Home, 6512 NW Crain Hwy, Bowie, MD

C/M Mr. Virgilio R. Mandapat of Lanham, Maryland, has joined our Lord on January 5, 2019. He is survived by his loving wife Nenita, daughter Virginette, sons Leo and John Carlo, daughter-in-law Regina, son-in-law Lonny, and grandchildren Liam, Jazelle, Luke, and Bryce.

Prior to moving to the United States in 2002, Virgilio served dutifully as a merchant marine for nineteen years in the Philippines. During this time, he traveled all over the world—yet he always longed for a simple life at home with his family. Sacrificing his position and leaving behind beloved family and friends, Virgilio and his wife brought their children to America so that they could receive an education and have a chance at a better life. His children ultimately finished their education and began to grow their own families; he spoke of his children and their families with great pride and happiness.

Virgilio was a man of many talents—he was particularly well known for being a talented handyman, cook, and gardener. He took great joy in these practices for he had a deep belief in the value of hard work and dedication. He shared the literal fruits of his labor with friends, and you could often find him outside raking the leaves not only at his own home but also at the homes of his neighbors. He was also known as a man who would always try to brighten up anyone’s day with humor. Even to his last moments, he was full of jokes and consoled his family with comedy.

The world may have lost Virgilio, but he leaves behind a legacy of kindness and care. The family asks that in lieu of flowers or gifts, donations be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Donor Services, PO Box 98018, Washington DC 20090-8018

A memorial gathering will be held from 1-3 pm on Sunday, January 13, 2019 with a Catholic mass from 2-3 pm by Deacon Robinson at Beall Funeral Home, 6512 NW Crain Hwy, (Rt 3 South), Bowie, MD. This will be followed by a gathering of friends and family at Osaka Grill and Buffet in Crofton from 4-6 pm.
