The live-stream for Ms. Spittle will begin 10:00am, on Saturday, Saturday 19th, 2020.
Virginia H. Spittle, 90, was born on December 27, 1929 in New York City, NY, the only child of the late Gustaf and Virginia Holmquist. At a young age, the family moved to a farm in Herndon, VA. This was a huge adjustment for the city girl who was used to sidewalks and indoor plumbing.
“Pee Wee” as she was affectionately nicknamed by her classmates was small in size but big in spirit. Her love of family was everything to her. And nothing made her happier than to bring them all together to celebrate at the holidays and on other special occasions. Her home was always filled with plenty of good food, lots of laughter and dancing in the rec room.
If you happened to stop by for a visit, Virginia always had time for a chat or would add another plate to the table. An only child herself, she was excited to see her family grow – from six children to nine grandchildren and later on six great-grandchildren. She was always tickled to get a call from one of her grandkids and eager to hear about what was going on in their lives.
Virginia met her husband, Donald Lee Spittle, in her early 20s while working at the Veteran’s Administration in Washington, DC. They married in 1952 and had 27 years together before he died in 1979. She quit working when they had their first child in 1955.
The years did not diminish her feisty personality. Virginia had strong opinions on everything from pacifiers to politics and did not hesitate to share. She will always be remembered for her kind heart, her ready smile and her fun-loving nature.
Virginia is preceded in death by her parents, Gus and Virginia Holmquist; and her husband, Donald Lee Spittle. She is survived by daughter, Judy (Wayne) Lundmark; son, Stephan Spittle; daughter, Deborah Spittle; son, Kevin (Kathy) Spittle; son, Alan Spittle and son, Jeffrey (Anita) Spittle; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
There will be visitation from 11-12 noon on Saturday, Sept. 19 at Beall Funeral Home, Bowie, MD with a private graveside service for immediate family members at Lakemont Cemetery, Davidsonville, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her honor to: Medstar Georgetown University Hospital, Office of Philanthropy, 3800 Reservoir Road, NW, Washington, DC 20007.
