Walter Clarence Melvin, age 68, affectionately known as Mel, quietly entered eternal rest on August 25, 2019, at his home in Seat Pleasant, Maryland. Mel was born on November 5, 1950, to Luerene Howard Melvin & the late James Nathaniel Melvin in Sampson County, North Carolina.
Mel loved watching westerns, sports, and cooking shows. He had a great sense of humor, which he often enjoyed peppering into some of his most intellectual conversations.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 40 years, Bernadette, also known as Birdie, two daughters: Kim Michelle (Richard) Cooper of Lusby, MD; Melvette Melvin (Luther Sr.) Davis of Bowie, MD; grandchildren: Mia Cooper of Tampa, FL, Ashley Cooper of Los Angeles, CA, Jasmine, Autumn and Simone of Lusby, MD, Luther Jr., Miracle, and Myles Davis of Bowie, MD; great-granddaughter Amiira Nickole Brown of Lusby, MD; loving mother Luerene Howard Melvin of Salemburg, NC; three sisters: Estelle Matthews and Florine Melvin of Fayetteville, NC and Geraldine Raynor of Clinton, NC; five brothers: James Nathan (Joyce) of Roseboro, NC, Willie (Alma) of Clinton, NC, Daniel (Mae) of Selma, NC, Roland (Urline) and Perry of Salemburg, NC; brother-in-law, Sebastian A. Sharp; 5 aunts, 2 uncles, 28 nieces and nephews, 44 great nieces and nephews, and 10 great-great nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Mel was preceded in death by his father James Nathaniel Melvin, his brother Barry Melvin, sister-in-law Valerie Price, and mother-in-law Barbara Sharp.
