Walter Millender Jr., affectionately known as Garcia or Big Jr., son of the late Walter Millender Sr. and the late Emma Osborne - Millender, departed this life November 13, 2023 at the age of 81. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.
The oldest of three boys, Walter was born on May 15, 1942, in Montgomery, Alabama. Baptized at an early age, he was a member of Saint Jude Catholic Church. His education started at Saint Jude Educational Institute where he graduated and received his diploma in 1960. Upon his graduation, Walter joined the United States Army in 1962, where he served three years before being honorably discharged due to a disability. Walter was employed by the District of Columbia Federal Government as a Facilities Manager for 21 years until his retirement in 1990.
Walter met his beloved wife, Betty Jackson in Washington DC in 1969. They married June 1, 1979 in Upper Marlboro, MD where they resided until his death. They had two devoted children, Tiffany and Mario Millender. Mario preceded him in death on June 16, 2022.
Walter had many hobbies that he loved. From cooking an annual New Year's dinner with a hog's head as the centerpiece to listening to Doo Wop and Blues and hand dancing with his wife. He was well known for his stylish suits and matching Stacy Adams. You knew when Walter walked in a room as he confidentally made his presence known. He was a fashion icon who wore expensive cologne, beautiful fedoras and had so much swag that he named himself "A Sexy Senior Citizen." He also had a great passion for watching westerns.
Cherishing his memories are his devoted wife, Betty Millender, Upper Marlboro, MD; daughter, Tiffany Barham, Laurel, MD; son-in-law, Jerome Barham, Laurel, MD; two grandsons, Trevaun Goodrum, Largo, MD; Tavari Goodrum, Laurel, MD; two granddaughters, Chyna Goodrum Laurel, MD; Rylee Woodruff, Bowie, MD; great grandson, Sailor Goodrum, Largo, MD; two brothers, John Millender (Carrie), Memphis, TN; Larry Millender, Beaufort, SC; two nephews, Courtney Millender (Crystal), Southaven, MS; Davari Millender (Shambler), Nesbit, MS and a host of family and friends.
