It is with a heavy heart the family announces the passing of Walter Lee Reed, 81, longtime resident of Davidsonville, Maryland, on Thursday, January 6, 2022.
Walter was born in Washington, DC on August 23, 1940 to parents James Reed Jr. and Elsie (McKenzie) Reed. Walter attended High Point High School in Beltsville, Maryland. After high school, Walter worked for Marriott Corporation. Walter went on to work for The Washington Post for 36 years until his retirement where he was well liked and respected for his strong work ethic and outstanding performance.
In 1967, Walter met the love of his life, Julia. The two wed in 1972 and spent 48 years together building a family and home. The two were inseparable until her sudden passing in 2020.
Walter was a dedicated employee and even though he worked many nights, he always made time for his family. He enjoyed watching western movies, Baltimore Orioles baseball and his beloved Washington Football Team. Walter enjoyed taking care of the family pets and working in the yard. He knew how to fix anything and everything. He enjoyed accompanying Julia on cruises to the Caribbean and Mexico. Walter enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He loved to tell stories about the good ole days.
Walter is survived by his daughters, Karen Dessart (Baudouin) of Rockville, MD, Sabrina Fountas (John) of Bethesda, MD, and his grandchildren Juliana, Daniella, Maxim, and Christian. He also has a son from a previous marriage Walter Reed (Tamara) of Laurel, MD, and two grandchildren Charles and James. He is survived by one brother Robert Reed.
Walter is preceded in death by his loving wife Julia; three sisters Barbara Dawson, Elsie Camille Gegenheimer, Peggy Benge and two brothers Buddy and James Reed.
Walter’s family welcomes friends and family to join them in remembering him. They kindly request that ALL GUESTS be vaccinated due to high-risk family members attending (i.e., Walter’s grandchildren that are not currently eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine)
