William Fitzgerald Bennett was born on March 2, 1963, at DC General Hospital to the late Henry Thomas Bennett Sr. and Betty Lou Shanklin. He departed this earthly life on November 22, 2022, at George Washington Hospital in the District of Columbia.
William was affectionately known by many people as “Billy.” He was raised in the Metropolitan area of Washington,D.C. where he attended DC public schools. Though mischievous as a child, William was always one of the first to lend a hand as an adult. This servant attitude served William well as he matriculated into adulthood in various jobs. William would often lend his skills in the kitchen as a sous chef or as team member for various catering events.
Throughout the last few years William experienced many health challenges. These challenges did not impede William’s zest for life. In William’s words he would often say “just give me a day to rest and I'm good!” Whether it was a party being held at his big sister’s bar or one of his little sister’s infamous holiday gatherings. You could always count on William to have a fun time. This fun time would often include listening to Anita Baker and various other R&B artists. William will truly be missed by his family and friends.
William is survived by Three brothers; Michael Bennett, Bryan Bennett-Lemmon (Presley), and Duane Bennett; Two sisters Judith Bennett, Victoria Ashton and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
