William “Billy” Nathaniel Daisey III, 89, of Bowie, passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at home, peacefully in his sleep.
Billy was born on October 8, 1930 in Washington, DC and lived his entire life in Bowie, Maryland. He had a life full of experiences steeped in Maryland tradition – growing up on a tobacco farm where cattle were also raised, working at Bowie Race Track during its heyday and enjoying his leisure time on the water of the Chesapeake Bay. Billy was the owner of K&D Welding Company and worked for the City of Bowie Public Works for 36 years, rising to the position of Supervisor of Parks and Grounds. He enjoyed ensuring that the sports fields in the city were well taken care of and prepared for the many youth sports teams.
Billy spent as much time outside as he possibly could and took pleasure in growing a robust garden each year with tomatoes, asparagus, corn and more. It was never a surprise for friends to open their front door to find a bag with vegetables from his garden waiting for them. Billy spent much of his time at his “river” house in Shadyside, MD fishing and crabbing. He enjoyed nothing more than sitting at a picnic table, cracking a cold one and eating freshly steamed crabs while gazing out at the water.
Billy married Peggy J. Daisey on November 10, 1951 and they were married 48 years until her passing in 1999. He is survived by his nephew, Matthew Hoskins, and niece, Jennifer Hoskins Smith as well as his cousin Marty Emory Daisey.
