William B. Ebersold, 82, of Upper Marlboro, MD, passed away peacefully at home on October 27, 2024, surrounded by his loving family, following complications from cancer. Bill was a remarkable individual who touched many lives with his kindness, wisdom, and stories.
Born in Hartford, CT in 1942 to William and Lucille Ebersold, Bill was an active member of the Boy Scouts, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout at a remarkably young age. He attended the Loomis School and graduated from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service in 1964. Bill's distinguished career in international transportation began with the Maritime Administration, and he also served as an Economic Affairs Officer for the UN Economic Commission for Europe in Geneva, Switzerland for three years. Bill spent much of his second career, following retirement, writing and consulting for leading cruise industry publications.
Throughout his life, he was a devout Catholic, member of Saint Mary’s parish in Upper Marlboro, MD and actively involved in Parish activities.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Vicki, and their four devoted daughters: Kris (Tom) McMahon, Mary (Jamie) Bryant, Karen (Giuseppe) Pulvirenti, and Jenna Vultaggio. He also leaves behind six cherished grandchildren: Erin (Dave) Reiner, Tommy (Becca) McMahon, Giordano Pulvirenti, Gerardo Pulvirenti, Julia Vultaggio, and Lauren Vultaggio, as well as a beloved great-grandson, Otto Reiner, siblings Katherine Cunningham and John (Mary Kay) Ebersold and a multitude of other close family. Bill was a loving and attentive husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend who had a passion for travel, writing and spending time with family and he was always ready with a story. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Services to celebrate Bill's life will be held at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 14908 Main Street, Upper Marlboro, MD 20772, on Wednesday, November 6, 2024. Viewing will take place from 10:00 - 11:30 am, with the rosary being prayed at 11:00 am, followed by a funeral mass at 11:30 am and interment at Resurrection Cemetery, 8000 Woodyard Rd, Clinton, MD 20735.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude’s Research Hospital in Bill’s name.
