William Lee (Bill) Gill, 83, entered the final roundup peacefully at home surrounded by family singing “Happy Trails To You” after a brief affliction. He entered this world to the proud parents of Ronald and Pauline (McRae) Gill on George Washington’s birthday in Kansas City, Missouri and always wanted cherry pie on his and George’s birthday. Soon following was his little sister Bonnie.
Entering in the Navy during the waning days of the Korean War, Bill started a career with high technology. He married Marianne (Martin) Gill. After the Navy, Bill attended the University of Illinois, Champagne Urbana. After graduation, Bill took a job with RCA in New Jersey while studying for his Master’s at University of Pennsylvania. Shortly after graduating Bill moved his family to Bowie, Maryland for a job with Westinghouse. Bill retired in 1995.
Camping, canoeing, rafting, bicycling, and travelling were favorite activities. He enjoyed twirling away the hour’s square dancing with the Belair Square Cats. Singing his own renditions of songs was a way to spread joy. Volunteer activities included Boy Scouts, work at the Patuxent Wildlife Research Center, and RESET, a program to teach science and engineering in local elementary schools. Bill was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Bill is survived by his spouse, Marianne (Martin) Gill, his sister Bonnie (Schneidermeier) and her daughter Linda, his seven children Richard (Emie), Karen, Margaret (Dennis Morrow), Ronald, Theresa (Leon Swain), Anita (A Bernard Jones), Diane (Ed Bemis), eight grandchildren Joshua and Franklin Atwell, Benjamin Morrow, Ian and Erin Bemis, Sean and Shaye Jones, Riley Gill, two great grandchildren Kayla and Zachary Atwell, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends too numerous to name.
