William “Bill” L. Love passed away on March 9, 2025, at his assisted living facility, Morningside House of Laurel, in Laurel, MD.
Born in Blanche, North Carolina and raised in Danville, VA, Bill was the son of the late William W. Love and Mabel Hodnett (nee Long). He graduated from North Carolina A&T, located in Greensboro, North Carolina. Bill moved to the Washington, DC area in 1965. He retired from the Census Bureau’s Controller General’s Office after over 30 years of service.
He is survived by three daughters, Tonya Love of Glenn Dale, MD, Pamela Love of Hyattsville, MD, and Sherri Love of New York, New York; four grandchildren, Sean Smith, Sierra Smith, Taylor Gaston Love, and Tyler Gaston Love; a sister, Cheryl Cephas of Upper Marlboro, MD; two brothers, Gary W. Hodnett of Clinton, MD, and Reginald Hodnett of Dumfries, VA; and several nieces and nephews.
Prior to his illness, Bill was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church in Fort Washington, Maryland, where he served on the men’s ministry, the choir, the finance committee and the Alzheimer’s ministry. He was an avid outdoorsman and happiest when he was on the Bay fishing and boating with his friends. He was also an avid Washington Commanders (Redskins) fan his entire adult life. He had a great sense of humor and a fan of jazz and R&B. Bill was an absolute people person with many friends and acquaintances. He rarely went anywhere in the area where he hadn’t run into an old friend or met a new one. He was kind, generous, and always ready to help a friend, family member, or someone in need.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bill’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association: act.alz.org/donate.
