William L. Marchi

August 23, 1930 — October 1, 2024

Crofton

William “Bill” Lawrence Marchi, of Crofton, Maryland, passed away on October 1, 2024, at the age of 94. Born on August 23, 1930, in Boston, Massachusetts to William and Jenny Marchi. Bill dedicated 38 years of his career to the U.S. Customs Service, where he rose to the position of Assistant District Director of the port of Savannah, Georgia, after working in the Chicago, and Washington DC offices.

A proud veteran, Bill served in the United States Air Force as an OSI Agent and was stationed in Japan for 2 years during the Korean Conflict. His commitment to service was evident both in his military and professional life. Bill was a graduate of Monrovia-Arcadia-Duarte High School, in Arcadia, California. He attended the University of Redlands in California, and Boston College in Massachusetts, before serving in the Air Force. After the Korean Conflict he completed his education graduating with a business degree from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida, which prepared him for his distinguished career in public service.

Bill’s hobbies over the years were playing golf and tennis, especially memorable were the tennis games played with his daughter, Susan. In his retirement, he remained active, working out at Sport Fit gym and LA Fitness and enjoyed relaxing with a book or movie and his favorite lunches at Panera.

He was especially grateful to live so close to his daughter and granddaughter and be a part of so many significant events in their lives. Watching his granddaughter, Elizabeth, grow into a remarkable young woman was a great source of pride for him. He was also very blessed to have such a wonderful wife who was an amazing caregiver and advocate for him. Most memorable were the annual family reunions that she organized every summer at their vacation home in Deep Creek Lake, Maryland. This was an opportunity to spend time with family, especially his sister, Geri, and her family who live in Massachusetts and New Jersey.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Jo Ann; daughter, Susan (Marchi) Polacheck; granddaughter, Elizabeth Polacheck; sister, Geraldine “Geri” Perry; and many cousins in Massachusetts. His life and legacy will be remembered by all who knew him.
