William Glenn (Bill) Thompson went to be with his Lord on March 5, 2022 after a very short battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 68 years old. Bill was born on September 11, 1953 in Clay Center, Kansas to John and Olive (Bartlett) Thompson. He had one sibling, his sister Patty. Growing up he was an avid fan of the Kansas City Royals, the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Blackhawks. After graduating from Clay Center High School he attended Kansas State University and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree intending to be a math teacher. When he decided that wasn’t what he really wanted to do, he moved to Lincoln, NE, where he attended the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. He also took a job at Back to the Bible where he worked in Shipping, Accounting, Computer Programming and Stewardship. While there, he met the love of his life, Cherry Glover, and they were married November 5, 1982. He later decided he wanted another career change so he went back to the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, and earned a Masters in Geography majoring in Cartography. He then took a job with the U.S. Census Bureau, and they moved to Maryland in January 1998. Bill retired from the Census Bureau in 2016 and spent more time enjoying reading history books and sports books among others. He also became very interested in genealogy and tracing his family tree which resulted in a wonderful trip to Norway in 2019 where much of his ancestry came from.
Bill made a profession of faith in the seventh grade. He grew in that faith while attending Kansas State where he was active in an InterVarsity group. While living in Lincoln, NE, he was active at Lincoln Berean and was a leader in Whirlybirds, a class for young children. He also sang in the choir and was active in a Sunday school class. After moving to Maryland, he and his wife Cherry attended Grace Baptist Church in Bowie where they both sang in the choir and were active in a Sunday school class. After Bill’s retirement from the Census Bureau he became part of a group that led a church service on Saturday morning at a local nursing home where he led the music for the service.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and brothers-in-law Dick Glover and John Glover. He is survived by his loving wife Cherry Thompson, his sister Patty Thompson (Brad Coutant), brother-in-law Ken Glover (Karen), sisters-in-law Jean Hoffman (Arlo), Diane Glover (Dick), Lois Glover (John) and numerous nieces and nephews.
