Her Life’s Journey (Obituary)

Our beloved sister, Winifred Yolunda Wilson, was born in Detroit, MI on August 8, 1950, the fifth of ten children born to Norval Lebanon Wilson, Sr., and Rose Bell Wilson, both of whom, preceded her in death. As a child, Winifred attended St. Paul Church of God in Christ, in Detroit, MI, where the Wilson Family were members many years, under leadership of the late Bishop Willie L. Harris. Winifred attended and graduated from the Detroit Public Schools. She was an avid reader and student of higher education.  Eager to learn and prepare to manifest her commitment to helping others, she enrolled and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work from Michigan State University (“MSU”). She became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (“AKA”), Delta Zeta Chapter at Michigan State University on November 21, 1970.  She completed her Master of Science degree in Social Work Administration at Columbia University in 1980.

On November 18, 1990, Winifred married Dwight Ivy. Together, they had one son, Toussaint Ivy, who preceded her in death in 2013.  Winifred was a family-oriented person, who was kind, thoughtful, tenderhearted, loving, caring, and a dedicated wife and mother.  She lived a disciplined and healthy lifestyle, which included yoga, walking, and cooking healthy well-balanced meals.   She had a love of fresh-cut flowers, and they could frequently be found throughout her home.

Winifred was also a spiritual woman who enjoyed music, the arts, and spending time in the presence of God, reading His Word and praying. God granted her a wealth of wisdom, which she used freely and generously to advise and counsel others in the true spirit of servanthood.

She leaves to cherish her memory and the legacy of her life:  Dwight Ivy, her 9 siblings:  Norval L. Wilson, Jr. (Glorious); Rosemary C. Wilson; Myrna J. Wilson; Karen C. (Wilson) Knott; Osric X.
